Raku dish
Glazed white on the inside, this raku bowl has scribed patterns around the rim which is blackened by carbon from burning sawdust and paper. The crackles are caused by rapid cooling of the pot which are then blackened by smoke
The patterns in the unglazed smoked rim were incised while the pot was still soft when it had just been thrown on the potter’s wheel.
This pot has been fired at a low temperature to maximise on the carbonised crackles and therefore is porous and not suitable for food or liquid use
